What to Wear for Portraits

These are some suggestions on what photographs well and will bring attention to the subject–YOU. Remember that you want to feel comfortable in what you’re wearing, and sometimes your choice of clothing says something about who you are. So consider these guidelines…

What to wear:
-Solids or very simple patterns
-Variety (in colors and styles)–this is if you’re having a clothing change
-Colors that complement your skin tone–Bright colors can make the photo pop as long as they are bright colors that look good on YOU. Neutral colors are also nice for some classic portraits.
-Simple jewelery–choose one or two pieces
-Girls–flesh colored undergarments work best
-Nail polish–natural or basic (avoid crazy colors)
-Long sleeves and pants
-Don’t forget that your shoes will be in some pictures! They should match and look good with your outfit.

What not to wear:
-Stripes, plaids, patterns
-Clothing with words
-Tanks and shorts (maybe a tank with pants…or shorts with a shirt that has more coverage..but for portraits, the more skin that is showing, the more it distracts from your face. So keep it balanced)
