About Naomi Figueroa Photography

Traveling. Farmer‘s markets. Changing of seasons. Latin America. Cooking. The color blue (definitely not pink). Maine. Fresh fruits and veggies. Photography. Big dogs (if you‘re going to be a dog, be a DOG). Writing. The smell of pine trees. Jesus. Teenagers. Speaking Spanish (or trying, at least). Learning. Fair trade coffee. Dancing salsa with my husband. Nature. Family.

Just a few snippets of my life, but it all comes out in my photography because it is part of who I am. The why of everything I do is to bring glory to God. He is the ultimate Creative and the reason that we have this wonderful gift of being able to create, whether our medium is art or language or technology or music.

I‘m so glad you stopped by my blogsite. I hope you‘ll enjoy exploring a bit. Leave some love in the comments, or send me a note on the contact page! :D

Flash!

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Well, I finally had enough saved up, so I made the plunge and got the Canon 430EXII flash for my camera. Wow…what a difference. I have SO much to learn, but so far, it’s made a world of difference. Some of my resources are:
Digital Photography School
Strobist Blog
And my favorite: Planet Neil Flash Techniques

Here are a few samples of my experiments with bouncing the flash. Quincy makes a good test subject…

This is using the flash unit, straight on with no diffuser. Much better than on-camera flash, but pretty harsh and unflattering still.

Here, I bounced the light from the flash off the wall to my right.

Here, I bounced it off the ceiling.

And now, I bounced the light at an angle on the wall and ceiling behind me. Nice and even light. Keep in mind this was at night, and the only light in a big living room was a small table lamp.

This is my favorite….so cute!
