About Naomi Figueroa Photography

Traveling. Farmer‘s markets. Changing of seasons. Latin America. Cooking. The color blue (definitely not pink). Maine. Fresh fruits and veggies. Photography. Big dogs (if you‘re going to be a dog, be a DOG). Writing. The smell of pine trees. Jesus. Teenagers. Speaking Spanish (or trying, at least). Learning. Fair trade coffee. Dancing salsa with my husband. Nature. Family.

Just a few snippets of my life, but it all comes out in my photography because it is part of who I am. The why of everything I do is to bring glory to God. He is the ultimate Creative and the reason that we have this wonderful gift of being able to create, whether our medium is art or language or technology or music.

I‘m so glad you stopped by my blogsite. I hope you‘ll enjoy exploring a bit. Leave some love in the comments, or send me a note on the contact page! :D

It’s about that time for a blog update! And because I’m not feeling particularly creative (writing wise), I’m not even going to sit here in front of my computer and try to think of some lovely words to post. Nope, this is just a photo post! [Right now I could say some cliché about photos and thousands of words, but I'll spare you.]

But, I will say a little something about my wonderful friend Sammi (remember the Sneak Peek?)…her mom had to do a little coaxing (in the form of buying her a sweet parisol as a prop) to get her to let me take her pics. This is the girl that I usually have to be really sneaky to get good candids of because she never wants me to take her picture! [Side note: if you're one of those people, I see you as a challenge. Consider this your warning.] But when we went out to shoot, she had some better ideas than I did! I think she even had fun, as did I! She is such a beautiful girl, and I hope you enjoy these pics from our shoot.

Write LOVE on your arms

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

I love teenagers. When I think about teens I know, or about this generation in general, my heart is filled with love, grief, compassion, and a desire to just show them so much about life–that there is hope on the other end of the tunnel, that’s there’s so much to look forward to in this life, no matter where you’re at right now, and that someone loves them.

I’m stoked to spread the word and support a great organization (really a MOVEMENT), To Write Love on Her Arms, by writing LOVE on my arms on Friday, November 13th. I’m joining over 850,000 people, not as a trend or an advertisement, but as an opportunity to tell people about the depression, cutting, addictions, and suicidal thoughts that so many teens are going through, and to shout it out: THERE IS HOPE!

So, friends, will you join me?

Check out a little piece of Renee’s story (how this movement got started):

[a little info from the Facebook page]:

“To Write Love on Her Arms is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.

“To Write Love On Her Arms Day is a day where anyone can write the words love on their arms, to support those who are fighting against depression and those who are trying to recovering. On this day, just write love on your arms, and show it off, other people will ask why you have love written on your arms, and you tell them you are supporting to write love on her arms day, and how its benefiting a non profit organization helping stop depression, and make love the movement ♥”
